On the last day before the holidays, Vilma finds an unaddressed envelope in her mailbox. Inside is a necklace belonging to her mother’s twin sister, who vanished from her village fifty years ago to the day.
She left behind a family in pieces. Vilma’s life has also been shattered. Her partner has thrown her out and for the last six months she has been living in her old room at her parents’ house. She’s 34 years old and works at a garden furniture factory with no orders forthcoming, and, she thinks, life couldn’t get any sadder than this.
But when Vilma wakes up the morning after a party and realises that she has entered into a bet that she can’t get out of, she knows that everything can get worse. Much worse.
