Albert Einstein was born in the German Empire on 14 March 1897. Soon afterwards the family moved to Munich where Einstein was to receive his education. Contrary to the popular belief, young Einstein was considered a bright student during his early education. In 1894, due to some financial problems, the family once again moved, this time to Italy. However, Einstein remained in Munich to continue his studies. He completed his secondary schooling from Argovian Cantonal School in Switzerland. Having completed his high school with distinction in mathematics and physics, Einstein enrolled at Zurich Polytechnic seeking a four-year mathematics and physics diploma. He was awarded the degree of teaching diploma in 1900.
