Psychology can be described as the scientific study of the mind and behavior which stretches across the whole spectrum of human actions and feelings. Unlike conventional sciences psychology does not have a set of rigid paradigms, which can be defined as universal views that underline all theories within a scientific subject.
Psychology instead holds sets of debates in which researchers aim to prove one side of a debate to be right or wrong. The main example of these debates is what is known as nature vs. nurture, the nature side of this argument suggests that all psychological phenomena is caused by natural factors such as genetics, brain chemistry or previously evolutionary advantageous behaviors. However the nurture side of the debate highlights the importance of how the external world can contribute to psychological phenomena, such as family upbringing, socioeconomic class, life events and learnt behaviors.
